I have a few words concering this issue for now. I'll let you all deal with it.

From the cover right to the very last panel, this is the single greatest ongoing issue of Daredevil I have EVER read since the relaunch.

This book made me howl and shake my fists in twisted glee. This is one of those issues that gives me hope for the super hero genre. This book made me glad I (still) read comics.

#86 reaffirmed my decision to keep Daredevil on my pull list when I've dumped every other Marvel title.

"Nice work" to all on the creative team. You guys rock like satan.

i'll second the last 2 posts. "Remember who you are, Matt" fantastic. the previous 2 issues were really just OK in my book, but like Clayton said, it was one of the best DD issues written.

Holy smoke!

I am so glad that it was MILLA who said to Matt, just before the feces hit the rotary oscillator, "Remember who you ARE, my love".

Maybe his revenge was for Foggy, but I think once this blows over, he will realise just how much those words also stirred him up.

No doubt in my mind now, not that there was ever much, that Brubaker and Lark are going to go down in history with their run on DD.

Absolutely loved this issue! From Milla's visit, to Matt saving the warden, to Kingpin encorporating Bullseye into the escape, to Matt taking Bulls and Kingpin out of commission (for the time moment), to the final page with Punisher this was just a great read. I've already been through it twice and will most likely get through it again before letting a co-worker scope it out tomorrow.
Brubaker's Captain America is wonderful, but his first DD arc just rocks...keeps getting better with every issue!

And another thing: I've already decided I'm going to buy this TPB when it comes out so I can read the story over and over (especially #86!) and not disturb my precious issues.

I have heretofore been an issue guy with DD but this arc is the exception to the rule. It is that good.

I can only echo these sentiments. This was a truly exceptional issue, and a testament to the ability of Mr. Brubaker. The artwork was superb, and the cover was memorable. One adverse criticism: some of the character's actions were contrary to logic. Did Fisk REALLY believe that Matt would allow BULLSEYE to accompany them?! Bullseye?! Preposterous. Fisk could not POSSIBLY be that obtuse. And Becky escorting Milla to the prison - the very prison that Foggy was (supposedly) slain in?! Utterly absurd. Neither Becky (nor any other rational adult) would endanger another innocent in the wake of Foggy's death! Perhaps there is some explanation for the character's perplexing behavior (is Killgrave the criminal mastermind manipulating events?).

Nonetheless, a phenomenal issue.

Stephan, I take it the violence in this issue didn't bother you, since Matt wasn't on the bloody receiving end? This issue had more violence per page than any we've seen in a long time.

I found it hard to believe that Bullseye wouldn't have just killed Matt upfront. But it was a pretty good issue. I just can't wait for Matt to get out of prison and on with his life.

Back when Bendis/Maleev left the book, I gave Brubaker/Lark six months to prove I should keep reading this book. If I didn't say it, I thought it and definitely meant it. My hope was they would come through.

DareDevil is, for better or worse, the story of five people; Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, Foggy Nelson, Bullseye and whomever is the damsel of the moment. The best stories come from finding the drama between those five points. Miller's contribution of focusing on that tight circle is just as great as how he made the book more gritty and realistic.

This issue hits all five of those points and hits them hard. Foggy's memory fuels Matt's rage, Fisk uses Bulls to facilitate their escape and then it's Milla's words which bring him back to rationality. What more can you want out of an issue?

Well, I'll see you guys at issue #88. My fears about Bru/Lark coasting off the inertia of Bendis/Maleev were put aside with issue 86. This was the new creative team's opportunity to set off in their own direction with a burst and that they did.
