Daredevil Message Board The Board Without Fear!
|
The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

Honestly, I don't know. As long as the writing is good it could be any crazy villian who's out to look for fame, revenge, etc.
Sure, there should be some resolution, but I'd see it in the form of DD doing something that would scare villians so badly that they really do run off, even the craziest crazies! |
I think if we are going by crazy villans who would want revenge on DD there is Purple Man, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Fear, Typhoid Mary, Bullseye, Bullet, Bushwacker and Owl and that is off the top of my head.
There should be some resolution, but if DD scares them off for good he could lose some villains that make for good storys in the future, there should be a door that would allow them to return in the future, just not right away. |

I've only read about half this thread "so forgive me if I go astray..."
I would love it if Brubaker and the rest of the team got Daredevil out of the costume and into a more noir, "crime drama" genre. Not only would it fit nicely into post Civil War, but Daredevil at it's best has been "pulpy" at heart.
Just the whodunnit thread regarding Foggy (once he's out) would make an excellent backdrop for a pissed off Matt with "nuthin' to lose," kickin' ass and takin' names.
This would also play to Bru and Lark's core competencies as creators. _________________ Poser

If Matt is out costume the whole time, what is the point of calling the title Daredevil? |

If you peel an apple, is it still an apple?
Should the book be renamed while Matt is in prison?
Matt and Daredevil are the same person... the costume is for [insert reason of the week]. If everyone knows Matt is Daredevil (and Matt is Daredevil!) what's the point of the costume? _________________ Poser |

On this subject, I personally would love to see some DD stories were he wonders the land, like in Nocenti's Hell arc. However, unlike the Hell arc, I'd like to see a more realistic tone. Think Miller's pre-Born Again one shot. Then, I think the whole out of costume thing would make sense, because Matt could probably blend in better than DD. _________________ "Flash is back. Brubaker didn't like Nocenti's run, so I doubt we will see that. |

I just want to let Forrest know that this particular message board thread, which I read from beginning to end last week, has brought me back into reading the very comic which I held most dear since I bought my first issue #284 as a teenager. Your compare and contrast statement regarding the previous authors of the book, and excellent description of Bendis' run (which had some moments, but I often describe as a "takedown" and not a "breakdown" of the character) made me hit the comic book shops to catch up on a few years of reading, my previous issue was something in the early 60's. I finished Bendis' run last night and did not love it (those are kind words), more of the same destruction of the essence of Matt/DD that attracted me to the chracter in the first plase. (I have never seen Matt be the victim of everybody else's whims and desires...constantly one step behind everybody else's plans for him - very un-like the Matt of yesteryear).
Anyway, I just put down the first Brubaker issue and within the first two pages I had that excited feel that the ship has taken a turn for the better. This arc has a feeling like it will not completely absolve the past events (as was done when FFG and TOK ended), but that we are going to finally get a break from the "outing" issues and get back to some more serious DD time. And I agree that getting him out of the the city for a prolonged road trip would be a great way to do things, as it appears this is the direction he is heading into with the upcoming issues.
So, thank you for your well designed and important posting, as it has brought me back into the world of a character who may very well one day return to being the man without fear...rather than the man without any shred of hope, as you eloquently put it. of course,if they do not return his trusty side kick to the story, I will have a bone to pick with this new crew... |

Glad you liked the thread! DD has such a rich history and it's a shame when people only stick to vol 2, especially considering that the vol. 2 Matt/DD is so much different than the vol. 1 Matt/DD (unless DeMatteis is writing ).
I'm looking forward to a day in the near future when DD is constantly one step ahead of everyone else, instead of the other way around. Fine times are ahead of us, with Brubaker at the helm! _________________ "Flash is back. Worlds will die again!" |
