Detective - Sorry, can't remember the number here. It's good. I still like the one shot format even though Dini sat this month out. There are some reviewers who don't like it. But I read enough long arcs. Having a story which ties up nicely reminds me of the old Batman comic books my Grandmother used to get for me at garage sales.
Ex Machina #24 - Speaking of long arcs, this book is still trying to find itself. I wonder if BKV did the right thing by limiting the story to four years' worth of issues. I get the feeling this would be much better if he just allowed it to sprawl out.
Midnighter #1 - I'm someone who pays attention to The Authority but doesn't actively read it month-to-month. But I'll give the Midnighter series a shot because he's the most interesting member of The Authority. The first issue was kind of a refresher course on him followed by an action sequence and then starting the main thrust of the plot. If the next issue is any good, I'll stay with it. _________________ 2006 Pull List Awards

After looking at some of the comics I thought I was going to buy I changed my mind. I ended up getting:
300 HC With the movie coming up I wanted to pick this up. I've been meaning to get it for a while. Still working on it, but really enjoying it.
Mouse Guard #5 More great stuff. I'm sad there's only one issue left, but with as good as it's been selling they'll probably do another round of it. _________________ "Why should I be frightened of dying?

52 - OK. As always, I liked the Ralph Dibny stuff. Also, there was a fair amount of genuinely funny material (Morrison?). Still, this is becoming pretty solidified as a book strictly for hardcore DC fans, which is a shame. DC should have taken a more newbie friendly approach here. With every big event, DC increases its need for a Ultimate Universe sort of thing. It is just not one-third as new reader friendly as Marvel.
Action Comics - fantastic! I highly recommend this one, even to people who have never read a Superman comic!
DD #90 - Loved it, although I wish more would have happened. Still, the artwork was worth the price of admission.
JLA #3 - Meltzer is taking it much slower with this than Identity Crisis, but it still just as gripping. Benes's art rivals Jim Lee's. Simply amazing book! _________________ "Flash is back. Worlds will die again!" |
