Thanks for the link.
While I think that the film, which looks quite nice in the trailer, will never be as exciting as the original comics (I have yet to see a film adaptation of a comic which is half as good as the original), well, it seems worth a look.
Two things:
-What I don't like: half of the trailer is filled with explosions. I mistrust films with explosions: usually are a way to hide lack of ideas in a script.
- What I like: Michael Caine. Gary Oldman. Never mind how bad a film is, these two gentlemen always give performances which are entertaining to watch. _________________ Gloria

I think that the trailer is, in this sense, too trailerish. Maybe there are those few explosions in the film, all serving their purpose in the story, and they put them all in the trailer for coolness factor.
Then there is this syncopated background music which makes it sound so much "pirate of the caribbean".
I think they're playing a little too much with expectation this time. |

Are we all watching the same trailer?
JOKER! JOKER! JOKER! Holy crap does it look like they nailed the Joker. "Nothing in his pockets but knives and lint"? I literally could not be more excited.
Oh, and BATCYCLE? Did everyone miss the Batcycle. It has guns on the front. It's huge.
So excited. _________________ JC

I won't go so far as to say they nailed the Joker in the film, but I am relieved to see that he'll be played more homicidal than silly in this film. (Sidenote- Am I the only person who couldn't stand Jack Nicholson as the Joker?)
The Batcycle and Batmobile in these films bug me. -Sure, they're more realistic and look cool in their own right. But I'm too hung on too many cool visuals from the comics. Seriously, how could Jason Todd have ever tried to steal the tires off of this 'Bat-Tank'?
I will agree that Gary Oldman is always worth watching. I'd love to see more interaction between Gordon and Batman this film. (Also hoping that we get a decent Harvey Dent, even if only for a couple of moments.) |

You guys are not movie critics, please don't play one. What's with all this "book is better" "original is better" crap? I can't wait to go see this movie. Don't worry about all the explosions, Chris Nolan is known for his stories and plot in films. A trailer is a trailer. It's supposed to entice the general audience to go see the film. It's not for you uptights.
Joker looks like a psycho. The motorcycle looks just as unconventional as the Batmobile was in the previous film. Finally, you can't argue with the all-star cast of Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine. This film is going to be awesome. |

...You mean the same music that's from Batman Begins?

...So the film adaptation Batman Begins wasn't half as good as 1000 (and change) Batman comics? So like, Batman Begins was worse than space-age super-campy 60s-era Batman?
It wouldn't be a message board thread about a comic book movie trailer without ridiculous, unmerited doubting. (And for that matter, "fan-boy-ing" all over the place.)
My problem with the doubters in this thread is that it seems that Batman Begins hasn't built any credit with you. I can understand if someone says "Hey, I hope it's as good as Batman Begins." Instead, it's like you guys are heading back to square one. "OMG EXPLOSIONS! No script!" Right. Because the director of the much-heralded best comic book movie EVER is just gonna take the goodwill he built and piss it away.
It's Christopher Nolan, not Michael Bay. It's Christian Bale, not Dan Aykroyd. 3 out of 5 prominent male actors in the movie are British, and the lone American is MORGAN FREEMAN. It's stacked from top to bottom.
Jesus people, trust a little.
Now--my thoughts?
1) Whoever chose Heath Ledger and suggested him to Nolan deserves a raise.
2) Why, oh why, do they cast ugly, non-marketable women to play Rachel Dawes? It's like they DON'T want to make the perfect movie.
That makes sense though. They'd prolly just spoil you jaded bastards.
...And you all thought I wasn't watching. |

Aww, Stanley, don't invoke Jesus unappropriately. I trust this movie and I'm as excited as anyone about it. But about the trailer, I can just accept that they had to do it this way to give it coolness factor and be confident that the movie will be a totally different story. |

And, sincerely, I thought that was a given.

In fact -gasp!- we're commenting the trailer, not the movie. |

Wow. I am honestly stunned by the negative comments in this thread. I don't want to be too harsh but:
Gloria's "complaints" make exactly zero sense. "Too many explosions"? Are you kidding? Are you under some sort of strange impression that there are no explosions in Batman comics? Remember when they fire bomb the house Bats is hiding in in Year One? Too many explosions! How did Jason Todd die? Hmmm. I seem to remember. Wait....yes. EXPLOSION! How was Bruce Wayne introduced in the character defining Dark Knight Returns? His race car. He was in his race car and it....wait for it....that's right...exploded. I don't know how Gloria can say the movie doesn't look as good as the comics when it's clear she hasn't even read the comics.
Sandman says:

I assume this is a joke. Is there even a standard Batcycle in the comic? So you're hung up on the dozens of different visual variations that have existed through out the comic's history? That makes loads and loads and loads of sense.
As for Francesco: my impression is that you don't like trailers. For the record, the earlier trailers have been a bit more down beat, so, taken as a whole the Dark Knight trialers aren't all music and exciting scenes (although that's what trailers usually are). Out of genuine curiosity: what kind of trailer would have made you happier? _________________ JC

Holy Cow! That trailer makes me so excited! I really thought it was going to be histrionic after reading all the posts about it, but, damn!, it’s almost low-key compared to what it could have been. I bet it’s going to knock our socks off. Long live the Batman!
As for Rachel Dawes being “ugly” – you’re crazy, Stanley! I love Maggie Gyllenhaal. Plus, she’s a real actor with indie cred. Besides that, “Rachel Dawes” isn’t even a “real” character. A movie amalgam woman without comic precedent. |

If I am to be sincere, your impression is correct.
A kind of trailer would have made me happier? I would've appreciated it more if there was less "action" and more "suspence".
This one was ok, after all (and there wasn't really all this abuse of explosions if you ask me).

I personally think this is a great trailer. Let's remember...This trailer had the joker in it. It has pretty a good defined characteristic of The Joker. He's Chaos, Insane *though this could be argued, Talk to Morrison*, and Anarchy all in one. Also...Gyllenhaal is a much better actress then Holmes is ANY DAY of the week. Plus Rachel Dawes is kind of a nod to a character from WAY BACK in the day, who was I think an assistant D.A. Anybody care to find that bit of info... |

...All I'm saying is, if you're going to fawn over an unattainable woman, be sure she's attractive. 'Attractive without makeup' attractive. Great picture of your girl here, huh?
I've seen her Agent Provocateur 'spread', and it does work for her...but ultimately, she's just creepy. Look at her first shot in the trailer, where she looks up from the table.
It's sick. Her lips are too pursed and she's just too thin.
I'll take Naomi Watts from King Kong for the block.
I mean, Maggie Gyllenhaal? I've seen better looking midgets.
...Namely Herve Villechaize.
Zing. |
