The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

No, I meant that one won't have to wait, you know, a year between issues ....

Anyways, it's about the best-looking book out there. And the voices of the characters are spot-on. It kills anything else that I buy the week it comes out. (Sorry, DD#105!)

I think it's great. I'll bet the hc/tpb will be a mind-blower. No ads, no DELAYS, and a quick read will put this one in the pantheon.

Damn straight. Picked up the first trade last night and I have to say I'm absolutely blown away by the critical response to this series. Is everyone reading the same book I just did?

I call genius like crazy (and I mean crazy). First off, my impression of the majority of the nay-sayers is that they're upset that Batman is out of character. What? Did anyone read DKR or DK2? I'd say that this Batman is exactly like the Batman in those books but that's not quite right. This is the same Batman but it's clearly a younger version of that Batman. It's almost perfect. It's almost a perfect older version of the Batman in Year One too. Some critics have said that this is Batman after Year One. It's a Batman that has figured things out (kinda) and is now enjoying being Batman. He's off his head fighting crime and doing all these amazing things. He's the god damned Batman.

Another point people keeping bleeting on about is "how can Batman do all these horrible things to Dick?". That would have some force if it wasn't for Batman repeatedly questioning his own methods. Plus, he explicitly states that he planned to recruit Dick later in life but had his plans pushed forward as a result of the murder of Dick's parents. He's flying by the seat of his Bat-Pants and making mistakes. To be fair, I think the very end of issue 9, where Batman realizes he's screwed up big time, informs everything that came before. So, I guess that wouldn't be clear if you'd read the series over the span of a couple years as opposed to in one night.

Generally though...brilliant. Just brillant. So many moments made me laugh out loud or cheer or something. I literally can't explain how excited I am for the Batman/Joker showdown. It's gonna be nuts.

And Robin? What a great characterization of Dick. I'm probably reading too much into it but I swear there's a subtle foreshadowing of the end of DK2 in the way Dick carries himself.

And, man, if this thing turns the corner (as some people are predicting). Like, if it goes from all out crazy Batman into Batman realizing he has to take more care (because of Dick)? If that happens this thing is gonna be a masterpiece. If it doesn't we still get Joker with heavy tats so who cares?

After all the horrible critical response I was basically buying this trade out of a sense of duty to Miller (and Batman). After reading it though, my faith in Miller is restored times 10. There's one scene where Batman saves a would be rape victim and she says "I love you". As he swings away Batman thinks "no one loves anyone. we just survive". Comon. That's better than anything I've read in ages.

As a final note, I can't explain how badly I want Miller to do an original Plastic Man graphic novel.
