In Cruel and Unusual, Brubaker and Rucka have been hinting at something developing between Matt and Dakota. If something were to happen there, what would be your thoughts?
Bad idea. Matt has way to many issues to resolve.

Under normal conditions, Matt and Dakota would probably be great together, but I think he should just be single for a while and work through his feelings about Karen, and now Milla. Plus he's still married.

Hmm, I don't know how much Dakota fancies our hero, but I doubt Matt is interested in her other than as a friend. Especially because he's still married (and in love) with Milla.

All I can say is, anytime soon it too soon. In real time, it's only been a couple of months since Milla was committed and not only should Matt not be ready for a new relationship, he shouldn't give up on her so soon. And, he's still married to her.

Other than that, I can see the potential in them having a flirtatous "will they or won't they?" thing for a while, and I also think Matt needs more close friends. Period. That's true whether thay are male or female. If it weren't for Milla, I could see why they would be right for each other though. A tough, but essentially normal and non-powered woman is a good fit for him.

I have a lot of cons, like:

- Matt is married

- Dakota has become a very interesting character: if she dates Matt, she's doomed to be slaughtered by some idiotic writer in the future, just for the sake of emotionally maiming Matt (again).

- Dakota is a mature gal who can live on her own, perfectly.

- Most girls fell for Matt nearly on their first pannel together, pretty unaware of he dangers of living by Murdock. Dakota is a well-informed woman

- If the Gotham Central team worked together again in DD... who tells you that they won't pull a Renée Montoya on Dakota? (I mean... maybe Becky is more her type, huh).

And last but not least:
- I rather vote for a Dakota/Foggy. I think the chemistry would be great (plus, Foggy's Ex-es have a higher survival rate)

Perhaps friends with "benefits".

It wouldn't be the first time Matt cheated on his woman or let his attraction for another sway him towards a course of moral confusion. That's part of the key's make-up.

Becky got it right: She sensed Dakota's attraction to Matt and then warned her to stay away from their resident "bad boy".

Speaking of Becky, and at the risk of sounding crass, I'm surprised that Matt hasn't alreadfy made a major play for her. Matt's proven to have an unusual attraction to women with disabilities: Echo (deaf), Milla (Blind). Maybe his unusual attraction played a role in making Becky a partner in his firm.

I don't know. While Becky was around, Matt's love life was more or less occuppied (simultaneously or in quick succession) By Natasha Romanoff, Heather Glenn, Elektra Matchios and Glorianna O'Breen. Some tight competition there.

While Matt showed great concern about her, for instance, in the "lady killer" story about Melvin Potter and his "double", Or when Micah Synn attacked her, I never saw a hint about his being in love with her. Of course, we saw her pining after Matt, but it strikes me as a one-sided affair.

In fact, since her return, Becky has never shied away from criticising Matt whenever she felt he was in the wrong path. I feel an extra dose of hostility lurking under the surface... part of it might be owed to her recent realization that Matt was DD, but Foggy has suffered a lot as a result of that, even more than Becky, and is generally far more gentler/understanding to Matt than Becks.

I am under the impression that maybe the frustration of her (past?) unrequited love for Matt is behind her pulling no punches.

It's my understanding that people who are so "inclined" usually have a fixation on a particular disability, not just any and all. Either way, I'm pretty sure that's just a coincidence (well, purposely written by someone, of course). If anything, I'd say it might be because he just wouldn't care all that much or consider it to be a big deal.

With Becky, he's always just been really good friends, I guess and they did seem fairly close, particularly under O'Neill. What I don't understand is why Frank Miller gave Becky such a drastic "make-under" when he started pencilling. She went from super-hot to mousy. Just check out her first appearance...
