Oh my God... What a complete load of nonsense this whole event turned out to be. The final issue was one illogical plot point after another and I'm sad to say that Dark Reign appears to be based on throwing together a bunch of characters and putting them in charge, not because it makes any kind of internal sense, but because it might be marketable to fourteen-year-olds. I hope Dave won't mind my quoting some of what he said in the Comics Bulletin - Line of Fire review:

"More than once, I've compared Bendis' Avengers comics to a kid playing with action figures: there's a fair amount of colour and spectacle, but the plots are simple, the characterisation is thin, and the stories tend to tail off without a solid conclusion as soon as something else captures his attention. Whilst I'll give the writer credit for seeing this story through to a definite ending rather than abandoning it in favour of the next idea that takes his fancy, I still can't say that I've enjoyed Secret Invasion on any higher level than that -- and I'm not sure that the writer has brought enough to the sandbox to make up for the trail of broken toys that he's left in his wake.

The storytelling was crap.
I can't believe the guy who amazed me so much in his Daredevil run wrote something so pathetic.

Just for the fun of it, I went to check out what the fans had to say over on the CBR message board. Positive reactions to SI easily outweigh negative reactions several times over. I really don't get it. I thought people were going to be massively disappointed. I also thought people would feel, as I did, that getting Norman Osborne teamed up with the Hood, Dr Doom and Emma Frost (hello?) and sitting in a basement plotting to take over the world to be a forced development. I guess I was wrong. Shocked

The Emma Frost thing bugs me. After all the awesome work Morrisson and Joss did on Emma it's sad to see her being cast as a super villian. Especially since it even seems a bit out of character with who she was before she reformed.

Ohhh, just saw the solicit for an upcoming X-Men Annual:

"Emma Frost has never been a simple person, nor has she had a simple past. The Hellfire Club. The Hellions. Generation X. Genosha. But you haven’t seen it all. Did you know about her history with Namor? With Tony Stark? With Norman Osborn? The X-Men have often operated on the outside of the Marvel Universe; that stops now and in this annual. Do not miss it."

Yipes. Namor? Really? Can anyone think of the last time a retcon involving unexpected past connections didn't completely suck?
