well said. i saw the picture last night on Entertainment Tonight. i complained to my wife that they are farming out some really good DD charatcters to other franchises....BW and Typhoid Mary. It's a shame really.

I think she LOOKS the part. The question I have is will she be able to handle the action sequences believably? Here's hoping...
Don't forget that BW has popped up in Iron Man continuity quite a bit in the past as well (maybe more so in the Ultimate universe) . I prefer her as a supporting DD character, but she's obviously been in a ton of Marvel books and this also could lead into her involvement in the Avengers film.

I'd like to echo jc's sigh.
If DD had been a successful franchise, BW could have easily been included in the DD films. Iron Man rocked, the studio wants more films and BW finds a nice home in IM.
Mark Steven Johnson sucks, will always suck and when he dies will continue to suck.
ps. btw, Rachel Nichols as Scarlett (GI Joe) look like she could also have made a great BW.

I think she looks good as BW!!! I'm also worried about the fight scenes... Maybe IF we EVER have a new DD movie BW will be in it. How great would be the Guardian Devil story???

Bad. Very bad. Guardian Devil was a horrible story. Even if you don't agree with that (for example you hate things like plot) you still have to admit the it would make a horrible movie. The end would make no sense at all to about 95% of the audience.
As for the BW pic, I think she looks pretty close to the character which is cool. I would have preferred the short hair JRJR era version over the overly sexed up Joey Q version but whatever.

What?? Guardian Devil was not a horrible story! I love it!! You are right about the end. Ok maybe 95% of the audience won't understand it but stiil i think it is a great story!!

What?? Guardian Devil was not a horrible story! I love it!! You are right about the end. Ok maybe 95% of the audience won't understand it but stiil i think it is a great story!! |
I've complained about Guardian Devil in the past on this board so I'll try to keep it brief. Look, it's not a good story. Do you know why 95% of the audience wouldn't get the ending if it were made into a movie? Because a random villian with highly questionable motivations drops in out of nowhere and then shoots himself. Call me crazy but that's not how good stories generally end. It was completely random and even though Smith tried to exposition his way out of it but it really was a cheap ending. Plus, there were just a million little (and big) plot holes and stuff. The whole thing was little more than an excuse for Smith to name drop "obscure" MU characters for no reason. Oh yeah, and the Karen AIDS thing. Man.

I agree, Guardian Devil would be a terrible choice of story to adapt for a DD movie (unless the adaptation made some major changes).
Anyway, Johansson looks great. The costume is far more faithful than I expected. I look forward to seeing whether she can act the part, as well as looking good. |

Well, guardian devil... I have to agree with James castle, it's a pretty bad story. Not as bad as some of the 90 stories, but still a bad one.
When you had a character (Mysterio) that has nothing to do with DD (he only fought him in a single issue) and who planned his own death by forcing the old hornhead to kill him saying the guardian devil that he choose him because his regular nemesis (Spiderman) is unavailable at the time, and when the said webslinger (who has always been in NY all the time) appears at the end to speek with Matt, then you have an idea of how badly written a story can be...
The story is infamous for the Karen Page character who has already paid her debt for revealing Matt id in the kesel run (there is a scene in which she is tied up and tortured by Insomnia with cranston fear gaz and her answer at the question "who is daredevil " is something like "he's... he's about to kick your ass". So much better that the AIDS crap)
As for scarlett Johansson, I like her look as Black Widow. I hope that she can act the part and will be able to handle the action sequences believably. |

Francesco, maybe you aren't looking at the picture properly. She has RED HAIR. That means she is the Black Widow. Admittedly she isn't perfect but it could be way, way worse. It's sad that "isn't as bad as it could be" is my standard for superhero movies but I feel like you get let down a lot less if you have that mindset.
Just to add some Guardian Devil bashing, the scene that kills me is when Kingpin is reading the newspaper article about Karen's death and says something like "well played" referring to Mysterio offing of Karen Paige. Apparently Fisk is impressed by this master stroke pulled off by Mysterio. BUT: 1. Mysterio didn't pull it off. Bullseye happens upon Karen Paige randomly and basically kills her as he would any other bystander. He's certainly not under any orders to do so. So the scene with Fisk is literally a shot of him being wrong about what happened. 2. Why is Fisk so impressed? Do you know who else tried to kill Karen Paige? Fisk. In Born Again. The whole thing is just sloppy.
