I'm hoping for at least 2 years. What do you think? _________________ "Helpful. Cooperative. Stupid. That's my boys." Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) Welcome Back Frank Series. |

Do you mean physically, or as the medium of choice? I don't quite follow why you ask.
I've never worn one out so far. Unlike you could do with a video tape or an audio tape. _________________ Alice

Longer than any of the options you have listed. When I was coming along the tape cassette had virtually made the A-track extinct. I vaguely recall how long it took the VHS tape to replace beta max... dvd to replace vhs and the so called come back of "super" vhs, which was to little to late because dvd had already cornered the market (and the latter was simply too expensive no matter how much better the quality or superior the picture was compared to dvd). _________________

Uh, I think it's "8 track" not "A track". Plus, VHS didn't really replace Beta. I'm pretty sure Beta was the superior medium. The two came out around the same time and VHS won the format war (apparently because Sony wouldn't allow porn on Beta). The VHS/Beta war was a bit like the recent Bluray/HD-DVD thing (except Sony won this time).
In any event, I think it'll be a while before Bluray takes over. HD TVs are common but they're nowhere near universal yet. Until HD TVs become super cheap and the defacto standard DVD will continue to be around. _________________ JC

I hope they last for a while still, since I don't really want to start replacing my DVD's with blu-ray discs yet. _________________ Andrew |
