Now that Mark Waid has been announced as DD's new writer, what kind of stories do you hope he writes? What plot points do you hope he addresses?

Personally I hope he makes Matt Murdock a lawyer again, there so many interesting stories that can still be done with that. Also I would like to see Waid do something with Gladiator, the last time we saw him he was in a mental hospital, I wouldn't mind having something done with him. I also like the fact that Waid is going to give a break Kingpin and ninjas, it would be nice to give Matt some different opposition.

One in which DD points out how hypocrite his supposed street level friends have been after having abandoned him when he needed them the most, and then coming to judge him when **** had already hit the fan.
One in which he makes Mr Fear wish he was never born. Also, more hero vs villain stories and less hero vs nameless mooks in a bar.

I want to see DD be the hero again! I want to see him soaring above the city. Like Francesco I want to see him battle supervillians!!!

I'm interested to see what Waid means when he says Matt will be practicing law in a new way we haven't seen before. He already did the law clinic thing in Nocenti's run so I'm really curious to see what he's talking about.

I know it's a long shot but I'd also like to see Mila come back, get sane and be a main character again.

"No plans for the existing foes, except to say that -- with all due respect to the fantastic work of all my predecessors -- I can go a long, long time without ever seeing Kingpin or a ninja again."

I can agree with that.

"You'll see some new villains, but more interestingly, you'll see some Marvel bad guys who don't normally face off against DD."

Interesting. Yeah let's face off against some honest-to-god super-villains.

"I can't be too specific right away because we're trying to coordinate properly with the rest of the Marvel line, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Matt working with (or being drafted into?) one of the existing Marvel teams before long."

Please don't make him an Avenger.

I actually want to see that, perhaps as one of the Secret Avengers. He is one of the only major Marvel characters who has never been an Avenger and I think it could work depending on how they did it.

I think it is more likely he will join the Heroes for Hire though.

Anything without the Kingpin, Bullseye, Lady Bullseye, the Hand, Elektra, and even the Gladiator would be a nice change of pace.
I used to love the Kingpin as a villian, but he's been so overused, he's become a parody of himself. I was happy when Brubaker sent him off to Japan. I knew he'd be back, of course, but I didn't think it would be as soon as it was. I hope Waid keeps Bullseye dead a little longer.

What I want to see from Mark Waid's DD run:

#1 I want to see Daredevil as a proactive superhero again, something that has been missing from the book since the 90's. Meaning he just stops reacting to everything. It's been long overdue.

#2 A final resolution to the outing of his secret identity. It's been 10 freaking years!

#3 No more Kingpin, Lady Bullseye, Hand and ninjas for a long while. I want to see the return of some old villians or maybe some (gasp) new ones.

#4 I love the grim and gritty DD but we have had overkill of it for years. It's time for some balance of the darker DD and the old swashbuckling DD, maybe something more in line to how Denny O'Neil wrote the character. Mark wrote more light hearted fair at DC so I'm thinking he's the guy who can pull this off well.

#5 No more stories of villians trying to destroy Matt's life for a long time. Also included in this no more Matt having nervous breakdowns, it's getting old.

#6 The main thing I would like to see is just the return of the HERO Daredevil once was.

Reading the interviews, it seems like Waid is of the same mind as me. More superhero, swashbuckling DD without going full camp. The readers and the character both need a break from ridiculously bad things happening to him.

Waid's defining work at DC was probably his Flash run. Here's to hoping he has similar success with a guy in a red suit at Marvel.

I actually WANT Waid to write Kingpin on his fisrt arc. I know another writer would bring him back, but I wish for Waid to write him on the first arc and dutifully kill him!

As for returning flame, rather than Milla. I would like to see what Echo thinks of all Matt's shananigans. It's time for them to catch up.

Villains? Well you know how I feel about Kingpin. I hope Lester stays away for a while as well. I am ready for an interesting take on the Jester or Typhoid Mary. But most of all, I want to see Purple Man.

Supporting cast. Foggy of course and I kinda want Black & White (or Tarantula & Tiger!) to stay, and see a side of them sans ninja influence. With Melvin Potter gone, Carlos can be Matt's 'bodyguard'. And ditch Dakota North, Tiger can do the PI work for Matt and Foggy. It's not likely she is due back to the Feds.

I won't mind Matt being an Avenger. God knows he deserves it more than half the characters that ever had the distinction of being an Avenger.

I don't think the Man Without Fear should have a bodyguard. It's a ridiculous concept in my opinion. I think Dakota North has been a great addition to the series, and I think she is a better match for Matt than Milla ever was. She can fend for herself and help Matt with his cases, whereas it seems Milla was only ever created to be a damsel in distress.

Also, could we finally have Matt finish grieving Karen's death? He hadn't properly dealt with the loss when he (stupidly) married Milla. The effect of Lilly's perfume further confirmed his unresolved feelings for Karen. I know Karen's death was a horrific event he'll never completely get over, but if Waid, or somebody, wanted to do a one-shot that finally put his issues around Karen to rest, I would greatly appreciate it. And because it would alllow him to move forward in his life properly, I'm sure Matt would appreciate it too. Wink

I really like what I'm hearing from Waid. I think he has the absolute right approach in mind for Daredevil. Surprisingly, I hadn't read anything of his before his name started getting batted around, so I picked up his Captain America trade entitled Operation Rebirth. Very good stuff. He's more than capable for the job.

Wishful thinking on my part, but I would love to see what Waid would do with a villain like Deathstalker. I also own every appearance of Sir (a character openly hated by many here) but I still think there's potential there. Laughing I liked Insomnia too. But hopefully Waid has his own ideas for new villains.

I also wonder if the change in direction for Daredevil coming so close to Axel Alonso's ascension to Editor-in-Chief is more than coincidental. He was a great editor on Hulk and Spider-Man back in the day. I'd like to think this signals a new era of quality comics to come at Marvel, as opposed to the endless gimickry and hype that came under Quesada's tenure.

More Dakota and Matt. Some kind of relationship angst.

Marvel has ruined it by letting everyone be able to become Avengers. (But that's an entirely separate rant)

I don't want Matt to become an Avenger because it makes little sense. Up till now, his focus has always been low-key. Protect the neighborhood, protect your loved ones, protect the little man. That doesn't fit in with the high-profile, all-encompassing focus of the Avengers. To me, he'd be a fish-out-of-water by joining such a group.

Heroes for Hire though, that I can see. A street-level approach to win back his reputation.
