Pretty sure Kuljit will be sending out the standard query on the 1st of the 4 Road Warrior Digital comics but I thought I would throw this out there.
I just purchased and 'watched' it on my computer. I'm an old man resistant to change but I found myself enjoying it. I'm hoping it will be converted somehow into a print copy but as I say this, I'm not so sure the way Waid set it up that it would be easy to do so with the effects he has inserted. Anyway, if there is a thread on this comic I missed, then just ignore this one. I am certainly wondering how everyone else thought about the digital comic approach, story line, etc. _________________ GrinchieDog |

Digital approach: great. It's cool that they did stuff that just wouldn't be possible in print (the 360 pan and the bleed from radar to complete form were cool).
The storyline: I think I missed it. There was a weird non-fight with Man-bull, a lot of exposition about what DD's powers are, a conversation on a plane about taking a plane and the brief introduction of a villain/mystery. Did I miss something? Oh yeah, the plane also landed before it was supposed to.
I've been trade waiting for years now and this issue is an excellent example of why. This is exactly what is wrong with Marvel's decompressed approach. For $2.99 you get a set up issue that barely even accomplishes that. Go back and read the first issue in the Born Again arc and marvel at how much actually happens in it. Or the early issues with Elektra. The entire Elektra back story is told in a matter of pages.
So, yeah, digital stuff is cool but content wise it was a non-issue. _________________ JC

I thought the scene with Man-Bull made excellent use of the medium, as did the 360 degree scene on the plane.
I can see what James Castle is saying though. I'm just surprised to read it being said about a Waid comic, because I think the decompression problem has improved over the past few years. I think his comics are way more compressed than other writers at Marvel.
Perhaps we could have spent chatting on the plane, and gone further into the situation in Milwaukee. That probably would have been an improvement, although that's probably the cliffhanger Waid had planned.
But, overall, I enjoyed the first installment, and subscribed to the whole series. This should be a nice treat until #1 (sigh) comes out. |

I'm probably being too nit-picky in relation to Waid's writing (I enjoy his Daredevil stuff and he obviously knows what he's doing) but the problem for me is that we don't know what the problem is. Other than setting up the characters (who we're familiar with) and putting them somewhere there's no real indication about what they're trying to do or overcome or whatever.
There's a dude without a heart beat who may be something. That's pretty tepid in terms of mystery or cliff hanger. On one hand I want to know what's going on. On the other hand I'm not going to be too worried if I never find out. Almost reminds me of the one and only issue of Daredevil: The Target where we basically find out that Bullseye is a person and that he may do something at some point. _________________ JC

Need a little insight here. I have downloaded a couple of online comics thru the Marvel app. They have all been the free downloads and of issues that have a print version. For the most part I like the interface of the online comic. I guess this is where I get "old". I just like to have a comic (or TPB). As of now, I'm holding off buying the digital version. Is there any possibility that a print version will be available? If not, will they collect all of the road warrior series in a digital TPB at some point (read: cheaper)? |

I believe that Waid said in an interview that he's fairly sure it will be collected in a print edition after it ends. (I can't find the interview now.)
I would caution, though, that the techniques used in the book (the way panels and text boxes pop in and out, the simulated 360-degree 'radar vision') may not translate well to a printed page.
I don't think I saw anything about a digital TPB, but Waid was giving his own opinion, not speaking for Marvel on that one, so it may well happen. |

I bet they will collect into a digital trade at some point. Or they'll have a sale. Comixology has tonnes of sales so I would imagine that, at some point, the digital versions will be cheaper. They had a DD Reborn sale not too long ago but I still couldn't bring myself to buy it.
I would be surprised if it ever came out in print. It would lose a tonne/would make no sense in a print. _________________ JC

Wow. So #2 was a single action sequence. Took me less than five minutes to read. At $2.99 it's a bit ridiculous. _________________ JC

It was well done, but I agree with james. We could use more for $2.99. |

I've been trying to read them on my phone, but the lettering is very hard to read. Is it supposed to be able to zoom in? I can't get mine to make it readable. _________________ Kuljit Mithra

I don't think it does zoom in like other guided view comics. I've been reading them on a 7 inch tablet and the text is even a little small on that. I think they're designed specifically for the ipad and/or to be read on a computer. Some of the effects can only be appreciated if you're viewing the whole "page" as text/pictures drop in and out.
I like the idea of doing comics specifically for a new medium as well as the idea of having a little mini-event with an issue a week for a month. But so far the execution is a little disappointing. _________________ JC

I've really enjoyed them so far. I love the way they look and move; the future of funnybooks is here . |

This week's installment seems to have a bit more meat. I'm not sure how the antagonist arrives at the conclusion he does at the end of the issue, because I don't know how we're supposed to be worried. I mean, it's Daredevil.
Still, Waid's skilled at writing intelligent characters, so I'm eager to read the final installment next week. |

I just downloaded my copy as well. I might get a hard copy of the series if they ever collect it, but I love the extra stuff that comes packaged in the digital downloads. The story is not grade-A but Waid is still great at bringing the reader into Daredevil's world. The setup was just a bit strange with Matt following the suspect because he has no heart beat. Regardless I am really enjoying the weekly release schedule. It helps pass the time between issues in the regular run. |

So I read the last installment. The artwork in this run reminded me quite a bit of Frank Miller's at times. For a weekly offering, it was fun, but I wouldn't say it's essential Daredevil. It was interesting to see what Infinity comics were all about. |
