Issue Summary

Summary by Michael Deeley

Daredevil returns from New York City to San Francisco. He's brooding over the Black Widow's decision to stay in NYC as an Avenger. Luckily there's a robbery to take DD's mind off of things. As he leaps towards the greasepaint-wearing thieves, he experiences a moment where the world suddenly "vanishes". It passes, and Daredevil foils the robbery.

Daredevil puzzles over the files the thieves were after when their victim approaches: Jann Wenner, editor of Rolling Stone magazine. Wenner invites Ol' Hornhead upstairs for an interview. Daredevil can't answer many questions without compromising his double identity. The readers, however, are shown DD's thoughts about his origin and his father. Wenner asks about the "first Daredevil", Mike Murdock, Matt Murdock's brother. Daredevil says he and Mike used to share the costume. (He can't very well admit "Mike" never existed.) Suddenly, Daredevil and Wenner find themselves in a nightmarish landscape. They're attacked by all of Daredevil's enemies.

It passes, leaving the duo shaken. Other people in the office and the streets outside all show signs of terror. Daredevil explains how that nightmare was like the daily life of a superhero. Superheroes continue their work, despite the danger, out of a need to help people who can't help themselves. But shortly after his speech, Wenner and everyone else forgets what happened. Daredevil calls the police and learns of similar incidents happening all over the city. Most were accompanied by a terrible scream. When DD hears a scream outside, and the sky turns into outer space, he leaps outside to face- Angar the Screamer!
