Our story opens with Matt and Foggy being ferried to Rykers Island
from the city. Matt is consumed by recalling the recent resignation
of Karen. She cannot be second fiddle to Daredevil in Matt's life
and she's leaving on a jet plane from Newark. He's planning on
telling Karen she is the most important part of life just as soon as
the morning business is completed. That business is to talk to the
recently incarcerated Gladiator who is claiming to not be said
villain! Foggy, Matt and the prison shrink begin the interrogation
of the prisoner with foggy positively identifying the Gladiator after
having been almost killed by him back in issue 18. Matt's super
senses can tell the Gladiator is lying but cannot determine why he is
feigning amnesia. Meanwhile Karen beats herself up about leaving
Matt and how maybe she shouldn't but is going to anyways.
Back at prison the brilliant DA Nelson pulls out the deadly saw-
blades of the Gladiator in an attempt to prod he truth from him.
This was just what the Gladiator wanted to happen and seizing the saw
blades he begins his escape. Matt slips out in the ruckus and
changes into DD. He tips off a guard to pull the alarm and goes
hunting for Gladdy. They meet and battle to a standstill for four
glorious pages! Interlude: Karen gets on the plan for Los Angles.
Big surprise. Back at our battle DD tricks the Gladiator into a row
of newly built cells. The confident Gladiator attempts to slice his
way out but finds his blades shattering on impact! It turns out
Foggy is brilliant and had tampered with the blades so they would
disintegrate after the Gladiator had played his hand. Foggy wonders
how DD knew the blades would break on schedule and DD says Matt
informed him. Well maybe Foggy isn't so swift.
Daredevil rushes to a phone in the wardens office in a last ditch
attempt to reach Karen. But as we the readers already knew, Karen
isn't answering anymore.
