Issue Summary

Summary/Review by Michael Deeley

A new criminal called The Matador has embarked on a one-man crime wave. Daredevil's first fight with him is cut short when our hero must save a falling window washer. Later, Matt Murdock escorts Karen Page to a costume party that The Matador has decided to rob. Matt leaps into battle as Daredevil, but the crowd and The Matador's cape confuse his radar sense. The Matador quickly defeats DD and flees.

News of Daredevil's defeat spreads quickly. The Matador gains fame with each daring crime. And to distract Matt even further, Foggy tells him he plans to marry Karen Page! But he gets cold feet and never does. Daredevil throws himself into the task of capturing The Matador. He learns Matador was a real Spanish matador named Manuel Eloganto. Manuel was always victorious in the ring, but his arrogance made him unpopular with the crowds. His career was cut short by a charging bull. Manuel blamed the accident on his "fellow man" and vowed revenge. Now that he understood his enemy, Murdock forms a plan to turn Matador's ego against him.

Matt tells the papers that the Matador is really Daredevil. The fight at the costume party was staged with an impostor. The Matador comes to Murdock's office for revenge, and finds Daredevil waiting. DD leads the Matador into a rooftop battle. In front of dozens of witnesses, Daredevil handily defeats the arrogant thief. The Matador loses his freedom and his public favor. Daredevil's rep is restored. But Matt comes out looking silly for his wild accusation.
