SHADOWLAND #1 has barely gotten into the comic store and here's a preview for next week's DAREDEVIL #508!

Please use this thread for all discussion on the issue.

Looks pretty damn good, though I'm hoping they take a few steps back and explain a little bit with what has been going on with Matt...

I was hoping for the same thing. As I stated the Shadowland #1 thread, I thought the sharp plunge into evil between #507 and #1 was unexplained. So I was hoping #508 was going to explain what happened in between.

But that would be a no. Disappointed.

Great issue that makes me long for more. The art and cover were so much better than Shadowland #1.

Not everything's revealed now, but at least there is an explanation for why Matt's suddenly gone evil. It was clearly hinted at in this issue.

This issue was absolutely excellent from start to finish. I couldn't begin to give this issue enough accolades to express how pleasently compelling it was with the Roberto de la Tore's artistry accounting for much with Matt Hollingsworths colors bringing DD world to beautiful, exuberant life. They actually managed to make DD new suit far more appealing than Tan's artistry did and more than I ever thought it could be. Even de la Tore's illustrations of the Shadowland building looked better and distinct here. These guys are peerless in their craft. Just an awe-striking issue at the vert least. I loved it.

There's much to delve into here I don't even know where to begin. Smile

I avoided posting in the Shadowland #1 discussion thread primarily because I've always felt that with event titles more so than standard story arcs, one needs to wait a bit to get a feel for what is going on. While I had many of the same questions that others did, I figured I'd wait another issue or two before getting too worked up about them. I know that DD isn't technically the next issue of the Shadowland mini, but it might as well be. The ongoing DD title is to Shadowland what Green Lantern was to Blackest Night - if you don't read it, you're really missing something important.

All of that being said, I really enjoyed this issue. I liked how Diggle touched on the supporting cast of Foggy/Becky/Dakota, gave a hint as to why we say Matt's drastic jump to the 'dark side' (although I agree with some that this has been brewing for quite some time and it wasn't as drastic and unbelievable as other thought), and brought Master Izo back into the fray.

I really liked this cover from John Cassaday (and I really enjoyed his work on Astonishing X-Men), but his other upcoming covers for Shadowland/DD just don't match up and I can't figure out why that is.

It was definitely wonderful to see the supporting cast back after such a long time away from the title and how deftly they were handled, especially Dakota. She was quite something in this issue as she stood up the Angela and showed feerlessness even Matt could envy.

Hoooly ****.

Like, even though the spoiler pics were almost unavoidable, HER return really did smack me around the head.

What a brilliant presense she has. No matter how or when she shows up in Daredevil, she always grabs your attention.

I'm so excited for this. It really does feel like a truly critical Daredevil story.

I LOVED DD #508. This is the first of issue Diggle's run that I can actually call excellent. Diggle & Johnston are finally hitting their stride. I love the close look at Detective Kurtz, and how he see's things. But the best thing for me was DD taking out those three criminals.

Third criminal: "Told 'em. I told 'em not to!"
Daredevil: "I know you did. But only cause you were scared of getting caught."
Then a glorious splash page of them hanging upside down with blood-painted hand prints on their faces, showcasing a sign that reads "THIEF".

whoa.

I finally have faith in Diggle & Johnston. I once again care about the Daredevil mythos, and I can't wait 'til the next issues come out.

Ok, so I have been a little down on the title since Bru and Lark left...but this issue and Shadowland #1 were terrific! I also have new found confidence in this creative team and direction. Looking forward to the next issue and Shadowland titles.

I actually thought this was one of the weakest issues since we lost Brubaker, and thought I should have known it from the start, I was surprised by the reveal at the end regarding the Hand's control over Matt, ie, he's no longer in control of his actions. I feel cheated if this is the case. He should be doing what he's doing because he's so mentally damaged by life experiences. If he's under mind control, the consequences to him as a person aren't as real as if he's making bad decisions of his own free will. I truly hope this whole thing doesn't lead to some re-set to an old status quo.

Overall, good issue.

The weakest point was the car barricade that Foggy and Dakota come across. What, is Matt literally sealing off Hell's Kitchen now? It was just jarring to see and too much like Escape From New York to me.
