Issue Summary

Summary by johndunbar

*A diner in New York City, now

Ben Urich joins a person whose face we cannot see, where he nervously discusses how it's been a Hell of a year... almost a year to the day when Matt Murdock took control of The Kitchen. Ben rehashes the affects of prohibition and WWI and how it resulted in the city needing Kingpins, a secret history no one talks about, but a necessary one until Matt took over. But find someone who saw him pull off his mask and declare the city his. None of the five thousand various media members have been able to find a witness, because they all left town, turned their life around, or killed themselves. Matt Murdock is the Kingpin, but it's urban legend. For six successive weeks The Kitchen's criminal element was ravaged by Daredevil, during which time lawyer Matt Murdock wasn't seen, he cleaned every bit of the underworld. When Matt reappeared, he gave the hundreds of millions of dollars class action damage settlement the he and Foggy fought for, back to Hell's Kitchen in the form of a neighborhood program through the Hell's Kitchen housing commission, where Matt's new girlfriend Milla Donovan works. She put the money into salvageable buildings, the rest for a new library. The Mayor helped match funds, and asked businesses to do the same. Crime was down and people were happy. That's how Matt saved the city. Ben explains what happened next...

*Murdock & Nelson Law Offices

A man from the Democratic Party comes to see Matt to tell him they are going to ask him to be a nominee for Mayor of New York City at an upcoming dinner. A surprised Matt says you're aware I'm a rather controversial figure, notorious to some. The man tells Matt he would win from polls they have ran, and that they need him. Matt and Foggy don't know what to make of this. Over the phone intercom, Matt is told Luke Cage is on line seven. Matt replies that can't be good.

*An area in a park in NYC

Four men approach Matt; one says "Murdock." Matt says who do we have here: Peter Parker, Luke Cage, Doctor Stephen Strange, and Reed Richards. Doc Strange thought it would be good if Peter was there because he's friends with Matt. Matt goes on about not being so laid back with your secret identity, you may have to make some life changing decisions, and then your friends will want to meet in a park and deliver a stern talking to. Luke wants Matt to hear them out before he rants on, he says he's gone too far, crossed a line. Matt knows, but it worked. Luke begs to differ, saying it just moved problems to other areas. Matt tells them to do as he did, and declare their respective stomping grounds as theirs just as he did in The Kitchen. Reed alerts Matt that law enforcement is asking them all questions, putting all of them under a spotlight. Matt wants to know how he crossed the line, points out how he's defended Reed from frivolous lawsuits, and watched as Cage has openly beat drug dealers. He's sick of "how it is according to Luke Cage." Matt's very angry they have come to him in this manner. Luke goes on about if Matt continues; he will be washing his hands of the situation. Matt asks Doc his thoughts, but just as he starts to ramble on about an ancient proverb, Matt walks away. As he leaves the park he focuses his attention on an FBI surveillance van, the guys freak out that they have been made, but Matt walks away.

*Matt & Milla walking on 10th Ave in the rain

Milla doesn't understand where the group was coming from, but Matt says they did have a point. Matt senses someone. He asks Milla if she knows what to do if the worst ever was to happen. He tells her to go now, or they will kill her. Milla runs off. As Matt listens, a man with a Katana appears. Several more men appear behind the man...
