Mob boss Roscoe Sweeny wielded his influence to fix boxing matches. He employed Jack Murdock as an enforcer, while at the same time controlling Murdock's boxing career. After Jack disobeyed an order to throw a fight, he was killed by the Fixer's men. A costumed Matt Murdock took it upon himself to capture those responsible for his father's death. The neophyte Daredevil chased the Fixer into a subway station, where the terrified Sweeney died of a heart attack.
