A foreign-exchange student and successor to the throne of his native Lichtenbad, Klaus Kruger was a law-school classmate of Matt Murdock. Hoping to realize his visions of world domination, Kruger sought the services of top professionals in a variety of fields - forcibly, when necessary. He lured Murdock to Lichtenbad after graduation by promising the assistance of Dr. Van Eyck, a prominent eye surgeon also kidnapped by Kruger. In Lichtenbad, Murdock was held captive and told he would be forced to work toward Kruger's goal of world dictatorship. Murdock escaped; as Daredevil, he freed Van Eyck and engaged Kruger in battle. During the fight, Kruger fell from the top of his castle to his death.
